Sec. 1202. Visa overstay notification pilot program

Not later than 1 year after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall establish a pilot program to explore the feasibility and effectiveness of notifying individuals who have traveled to the United States from a foreign nation that the terms of their admission to the United States are about to expire, including individuals that entered with a visa or through the visa waiver program. In establishing the pilot program required under subsection (a), the Secretary shall— provide for the collection of contact information, including telephone numbers and email addresses, as appropriate, of individuals traveling to the United States from a foreign nation; and randomly select a pool of participants in order to form a statistically significant sample of people who travel to the United States each year to receive notification by telephone, email, or other electronic means that the terms of their admission to the United States is about to expire.
Not later than 1 year after the date on which the Secretary establishes the pilot program under subsection (a), the Secretary shall submit to Congress a report on whether the telephone or email notifications have a statistically significant effect on reducing the rates of visa overstays in the United States.
