Section 156 of the Water Resources Development Act of 1976 ( 42 U.S.C. 1962d–5f ) is amended to read as follows: The Secretary of the Army, acting through the Chief of Engineers, may provide periodic beach nourishment for each water resources development project for which that nourishment has been authorized for an additional period of time, as determined by the Secretary, subject to the condition that the additional period shall not exceed the later of— 50 years after the date on which the construction of the project is initiated; or the date on which the last estimated periodic nourishment for the project is to be carried out, as recommended in the applicable report of the Chief of Engineers.
Before the end of the 50-year period referred to in subsection (a)(1), the Secretary of the Army, acting through the Chief of Engineers— may, at the request of the non-Federal interest and subject to the availability of appropriations, carry out a review of a nourishment project carried out under subsection
(a)to evaluate the feasibility of continuing Federal participation in the project for a period not to exceed 15 years; and shall submit to Congress any recommendations of the Secretary relating to the review. .
