Subsection 2(b) of the National Institute of Standards and Technology Act ( 15 U.S.C. 272(b) ) is amended— by striking is authorized to and inserting is authorized to serve as the President’s principal advisor on standards pertaining to the Nation’s innovation and technological competitiveness and to ; by amending paragraph
(3)to read as follows: to compare standards used in scientific investigation, engineering, manufacturing, commerce, industry, and education with the standards adopted or recognized by the Federal Government; ; by inserting after paragraph
(3)the following: to facilitate standards-related information sharing and cooperation between Federal agencies and to coordinate the use by Federal agencies of private sector standards, emphasizing if possible the use of standards developed by private, consensus organizations; ; by amending paragraph
(13)to read as follows: to coordinate the technical standards and conformity assessment activities of Federal, State, and local governments with those of the private sector, with the goal of eliminating unnecessary duplication and complexity in the development and promulgation of conformity assessment requirements and measures; ; and by renumbering paragraphs
