Section 7111 (20 U.S.C. 7421) is amended to read as follows: It is the purpose of this subpart to support the efforts of local educational agencies, Indian tribes and organizations, postsecondary institutions, and other entities to improve the academic achievement of American Indian and Alaska Native students by meeting their unique cultural, language, and educational needs. This subpart carries out the purpose described in subsection
(a)by authorizing programs of direct assistance for— meeting the unique educational and culturally related academic needs of Indians and Alaska Natives, including gaining knowledge of Native American languages, history, traditions, and cultures; the education of Indian children and adults; the training of Indian persons as educators and counselors, and in other professions serving Indian people; and research, evaluation, data collection, and technical assistance. .
