Sec. 543. Recodification and revision of Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard Medal of Honor Roll

Chapter 57 of title 10, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new section: There shall be in the Department of the Army, the Department of the Navy, the Department of the Air Force, and the Department of Homeland Security, respectively, a roll designated as the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard Medal of Honor Roll . The Secretary concerned shall enter and record on such roll the name of each person who has served on active duty in the armed forces and who has been awarded a medal of honor pursuant to section 3741, 6241, or 8741 of this title or section 491 of title 14.
Each living person whose name is entered on the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard Medal of Honor Roll shall be furnished a certificate of enrollment on such roll. The Secretary concerned shall deliver to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs a certified copy of each certificate of enrollment issued under paragraph (1). Such copy shall authorize the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to pay the special pension provided by section 1562 of title 38 to the person named in the certificate. .
The table of sections at the beginning of such chapter of title 10 is amended by adding at the end the following new item: 1136. Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard Medal of Honor Roll. . Section 1562(a) of title 38, United States Code, is amended— by inserting living after each ; by striking subsection
(c)of section 1561 of this title and inserting subsection (c)(2) of ; and section 1136 of title 10 by striking application therefor under section 1560 of this title and inserting such person’s name is entered on the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard Medal of Honor Roll under section 1136(b) of title 10 . Section 1562 of such title is further amended by adding at the end the following new subsection: A person who is entitled to a special pension under subsection
(a)may elect not to receive such special pension by notifying the Secretary of such election in writing. The Secretary, upon receipt of such election, shall cease payments of the special pension to such person. . Section 1562(a) of such title is further amended by striking roll and inserting Roll . Sections 1560 and 1561 of title 38, United States Code, are repealed. The table of sections at the beginning of chapter 15 of such title is amended by striking the items relating to sections 1560 and 1561. The amendments made by this section shall be effective with respect to medals of honor awarded on or after the date of the enactment of this Act.
