To eradicate or control the threat feral swine pose to the domestic swine population, the entire livestock industry, and the destruction of crops and natural plant communities and native habitats, the Secretary of Agriculture may establish a feral swine eradication pilot program. Subject to the availability of appropriations under this section, the Secretary may provide financial assistance for the cost of carrying out a pilot program— to study and assess the nature and extent of damage to the pilot area caused by feral swine; to develop methods to eradicate or control feral swine in the pilot area; and to develop methods to restore damage caused by feral swine.
The Secretary shall ensure that the Natural Resource Conservation Service and the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service coordinate to carry out the pilot program. The Federal share of the costs of the pilot program under this section may not exceed 75 percent of the total costs of carrying out the pilot program. The non-Federal share of the costs of the pilot program may be provided in the form of in-kind contributions of materials or services. Not more than 10 percent of financial assistance provided by the Secretary under this section may be used for administrative expenses.
There is authorized to be appropriated to carry out this section $2,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2014 through 2018.
