Section 203(c) of the Judicial Improvements Act of 1990 ( Public Law 101–650 ; 28 U.S.C. 133 note), as amended, is amended— in the third sentence (relating to the district of Kansas), by striking 21 years or more and inserting 22 years and 6 months or more ; and in the seventh sentence (relating to the district of Hawaii), by striking 18 years or more and inserting 19 years and 6 months or more . Section 406 of the Transportation, Treasury, Housing and Urban Development, The Judiciary, The District of Columbia, and Independent Agencies Appropriations Act of 2006 ( Public Law 109–115 ; 119 Stat. 2470; 28 U.S.C. 133 note) is amended in the second sentence (relating to the eastern district of Missouri) by inserting and 6 months after 20 years .
Section 312(c)(2) of the 21st Century Department of Justice Appropriations Authorization Act ( Public Law 107–273 ; 28 U.S.C. 133 note) is amended— by inserting after authorized by this subsection the following: , except in the case of the central district of California and the western district of North Carolina ; by striking 10 years and inserting 11 years ; and by adding at the end the following: The first vacancy in the office of district judge in the central district of California occurring 10 years and 6 months or more after the confirmation date of the judge named to fill the temporary district judgeship created in that district by this subsection, shall not be filled.
The first vacancy in the office of district judge in the western district of North Carolina occurring 10 years or more after the confirmation date of the judge named to fill the temporary district judgeship created in that district by this subsection, shall not be filled. .
