Sec. 505. Limitation on number of enlisted aides authorized for officers of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps

Section 981 of title 10, United States Code, is amended— in subsection (a), by striking the sum of
(1)and all that follows through the period at end of the subsection and inserting the following: the sum of— two times the number of officers serving on active duty at the end of the preceding fiscal year in the grade of general or admiral; and the number of officers serving on active duty at the end of the preceding fiscal year in the grade of lieutenant general or vice admiral. ; and in subsection (b), by striking Not more than 300 enlisted members and inserting Not more than the lesser of 300 enlisted members or the number of enlisted members determined for a fiscal year under subsection
(a). Such section is further amended by adding at the end the following new subsection: Not later than March 1 of each year, the Secretary of Defense shall submit to the Committees on Armed Services of the Senate and the House of Representatives a report specifying— the total number of enlisted members assigned to duty at any time during the previous fiscal year as enlisted aides for officers of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps; and the number of authorized enlisted aides by each general officer and flag officer position during the previous fiscal year. .
