Section 202 of the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act ( 20 U.S.C. 9201 ) is amended— by striking paragraph
(1)and inserting the following: assist adults to become literate and numerate and to obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to transition to and succeed in postsecondary education, job training, and employment in family-sustaining jobs, and to be self sufficient; ; in paragraph (2), by striking and after the semicolon; in paragraph (3), by striking education. and inserting education and transition to postsecondary education and career pathways; and ; and by adding at the end the following: assist adults with limited English proficiency in— improving their reading, writing, speaking, listening, and comprehension skills in English and their mathematical skills; acquiring an understanding of the American system of Government, individual freedom, and the responsibilities of citizenship; and where necessary, obtaining the knowledge and skills to transition to and succeed in postsecondary education, job training, and employment in family-sustaining jobs. .
