Section 134 of the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 ( 29 U.S.C. 2864 ) is amended— in subsections (a)(3)(A)(vii) and (c)(2)(B)(ii)(II), by striking workforce investment system and inserting adult education and workforce investment system ; and in subsection (d)— in paragraph (3)(A)(i)(I), by striking and are unable to obtain employment through core services provided under paragraph
(2); and in paragraph (4)— in subparagraph (A)(i), by striking and who are unable to obtain or retain employment through such services ; in subparagraph (D)— in clause (viii), by striking and after the semicolon; in clause (ix), by striking the period and inserting a semicolon; and by adding at the end the following: integrated education and training; and career pathway services. ; in subparagraph (G)— in clause (i), by striking clause
(ii)and inserting clause
(ii)or subparagraph
(H); and in clause (ii)— in subclause (II), by striking or after the semicolon; in subclause (III), by striking the period and inserting ; or ; and by adding at the end the following: the local board determines that such provision of training services would facilitate the provision of integrated education and training and sequential education and training programs. ; and by adding at the end the following: The local board may award a contract to an institution of higher education or other eligible provider of training services, including an adult education provider eligible under section 122, if the local board determines that provision of services through the contract would facilitate the training of multiple individuals in in-demand occupations. .
