Section 520J of the Public Health Service Act (42 U.S.C. 290bb–41) is amended— in the section heading, by inserting before Mental health awareness ; and Training in subsection (b)— in the subsection heading, by striking and inserting illness ; health in paragraph (1)— by inserting and other categories of individuals, as determined by the Secretary, after emergency services personnel ; and by striking mental illness each place it appears and inserting mental health disorder ; in paragraph (5)— in the matter preceding subparagraph (A), by striking to and inserting for evidence-based programs for the purpose of ; and by striking subparagraphs
(A)through
(C)and inserting the following: recognizing the signs and symptoms of mental health disorders; and providing education to personnel regarding resources available in the community for individuals with a mental health disorder and other relevant resources; or the safe de-escalation of crisis situations involving individuals with a mental health disorder. ; and by amending paragraph
(7)to read as follows: There are authorized to be appropriated to carry out this subsection such sums as may be necessary for fiscal years 2014 through 2018. .
