The Secretary of Homeland Security is authorized to hire 2,500 Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention enforcement officers. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention enforcement officers who have successfully completed detention enforcement officers’ basic training shall be responsible for— taking and maintaining custody of any person who has been arrested by an immigration officer; transporting and guarding immigration detainees; securing Department of Homeland Security detention facilities; and assisting in the processing of detainees.
