Subpart 2 of part A of title XXVII of the Public Health Service Act ( 42 U.S.C. 300gg–4 et seq. ) is amended by adding at the end the following: A group health plan and a health insurance issuer offering group health insurance coverage may not establish— lifetime limits on the dollar value of benefits for any participant or beneficiary; or unreasonable annual limits (within the meaning of section 223 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986) on the dollar value of benefits for any participant or beneficiary.
A group health plan or health insurance coverage may not place annual or lifetime per beneficiary limits on specific covered benefits unless such limits are otherwise permitted under Federal or State law. . Subpart 2 of part B of title XXVII of the Public Health Service Act ( 42 U.S.C. 300gg–51 et seq. ) is amended by adding at the end the following: The provisions of section 2708 shall apply to health insurance coverage offered to individuals by a health insurance issuer in the individual market in the same manner as it applies to health insurance coverage offered by a health insurance issuer in the group market. .
