Not later than 180 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Comptroller General of the United States shall submit to the congressional defense committees a report that evaluates the similarities and differences in the approaches to identifying and recovering improper payments across Medicare and TRICARE. The report shall contain an evaluation of the following: Medicare and TRICARE claims processing efforts to prevent improper payments by denying claims prior to payment.
Medicare and TRICARE claims processing efforts to correct improper payments post-payment. The effectiveness of Medicare and TRICARE post-payment audit programs in place to identify and correct improper payments that are returned to the government plans.
