Sec. 643. Survey of military pay and benefits preferences

The Secretary of Defense shall carry out a anonymous survey of random members of the Armed Forces regarding military pay and benefits. A survey under this section shall be conducted for the purpose of soliciting information on the following: The value that members of the Armed Forces place on the following forms of compensation relative to one another: Basic pay. Allowances for housing and subsistence. Bonuses and special pays. Dependent healthcare benefits. Healthcare benefits for retirees under 65 years old.
Healthcare benefits for Medicare-eligible retirees. Retirement pay. How the members value different levels of pay or benefits, including the impact of co-payments or deductibles on the value of benefits. Any other issues related to military pay and benefits as the Secretary of Defense considers appropriate. How information collected pursuant to a previous paragraph varies by age, rank, dependent status, and other factors the Secretary of Defense considers appropriate. Upon the completion of a survey conducted under this section, the Secretary of Defense shall submit to Congress and make publicly available a report containing the results of the survey, including both the analyses and the raw data collected.
