The purposes of this Act shall be to— ensure that a centralized and comprehensive database of geospatial data for the United States is available for use by the Federal Government to— improve the quality of services provided by the Federal Government; and reduce the costs to the Federal Government of providing such services; coordinate Federal agencies, State and local governments, and private entities to— maximize the use of private geospatial firms for the performance of Federal geospatial activities; and eliminate redundancy in the Federal performance of geospatial activities; foster the establishment and growth of private geospatial firms in the United States; and facilitate the development of new geospatial technology in the United States.
