Section 921 of title 18, United States Code, is amended by striking subsection
(b)and inserting the following: For purposes of this chapter: A member of the Armed Forces on active duty, or a spouse of such a member, is a resident of— the State in which the member or spouse maintains legal residence; the State in which the permanent duty station of the member is located; and the State in which the member maintains a place of abode from which the member commutes each day to the permanent duty station of the member. An officer or employee of the United States (other than a member of the Armed Forces) who is stationed outside the United States for a period of more than 1 year, and a spouse of such an officer or employee, is a resident of the State in which the person maintains legal residence. .
