February 23, 1929.[[H. R. 9961](/us/bill/70/hr/9961).][[Public, No. 796](/us/pl/70/796).] *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled*, Army and Navy.Chief of Staff, Army, to have rank of general. That hereafter the Chief of Staff of the Army, while holding office as such, shall have the rank and title of general, and shall receive the Pay, etc.pay and allowances of a major general, and in addition thereto, the personal money allowance prescribed by law for the officer of the Navy serving as Chief of Naval Operations.
Chief of Staff and Chief of Naval Operation to rank above all other officers.The Chief of Staff of the Army and the Chief of Naval Operations shall take rank between themselves according to dates of appointment as such and shall both take rank above all other officers on the active list of the Army and Navy: *Provided,* *Proviso*.Relative rank of present Chiefs, not changed.That nothing in this Act shall have the effect of changing the relative rank of the present Chief of Staff and the present Chief of Naval Operations.
