CHAP. 52.— An Act making appropriations for acquiring sites and the erection of suitable posts for the protection of the Rio Grande frontier.April 16, 1880. *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled*,Protection of Rio Grande frontier. That the sum of two hundred thousand dollars be, and the same is hereby, appropriated, out of any 74 FORTY-SIXTH CONGRESS. Sess. II. Ch. 52, 53,54,55,56. 1880. Appropriation.Military posts.money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, for the purpose of acquiring sites and erecting thereon such military posts on or near the Rio Grande iron tier as may be deemed necessary by the Secretary of *Proviso.*Title of sites.War for the adequate protection thereof: *Provided,* That none of said appropriation shall be used for Che purposes aforesaid until a valid title *Proviso.*Jurisdiction ofUnited States.to said sites be vested in the United States: *And provided further,* That the State of Texas shall duly release and relinquish to the United States the right to assess or tax said sites, or any of them, or any improvements placed thereon for military purposes, so long as the United States shall remain the owner thereof.
