1. Except as provided in section 4 of P.L.1988, c.163 (C.48:2-23.1), when a public utility petitions the Board of Public Utilities to approve the sale of any real property owned by the public utility, the board shall issue an order, in writing, of its decision within 180 days after receiving a petition deemed by the board to be complete for review; provided, however, that if the board determines that its decision on any such petition cannot be resolved within 180 days due to circumstances beyond the control of the board, the board shall issue an order, in writing, of its decision within 270 days after receiving such petition deemed by the board to be complete for review.
The board, not later than the 75th day after receipt of a petition pursuant to this section, may require the public utility to submit any additional information which the board deems necessary in order to declare the petition complete for review. The time periods established by this section may be extended upon the mutual consent of the public utility and the board.
