The Secretary of Agriculture with the approval of the State Board of Agriculture shall appoint a coordinator of agricultural development for the department who shall have the function, power and duty to coordinate and cooperate with all segments of the agricultural industry in the dissemination of information to the public on the importance and value of agriculture as a part of the overall economy and the preservation of a healthy environment in the State and assist in the development of plans that will encourage and assist farmers and related business in the improvement and expansion of farming and agri-business in this State.
The coordinator shall serve at the pleasure of the secretary and the board and, subject to available appropriations, shall receive a salary in such amount as the board shall prescribe.
