2A:44-175. Public sale and notice thereof; disposition of proceeds

If any money due for work done or materials furnished upon any watch, clock or jewelry shall remain unpaid for 1 year after the completion of said work or the furnishing of said materials, the lien claimant, having first given 30 days notice in writing to the owner specifying the amount due and informing him that payment of such amount within 30 days will entitle such owner to the return of the property in the custody of the lien claimant and that in default thereof the said property will be sold, may, if payment is not made within said period of 30 days, sell such watch, clock or jewelry at public sale to satisfy the amount due.
The proceeds of the sale after the deduction of the costs and expenses thereof shall first be applied to the payment of the indebtedness secured by the lien, and the balance, if any, shall be paid over to the owner.
