In this section, the term appropriate committees of Congress means— the congressional intelligence committees; the congressional defense committees (as defined in section 101(a) of title 10, United States Code); the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Senate; and the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives. The Director of National Intelligence shall identify the businesses, academic and research institutions, and other entities in the People’s Republic of China that provide support to the People’s Liberation Army, including— for national defense or military modernization, including the development, application, or integration of civilian capabilities for military, paramilitary, or security purposes; for the development, production, testing, or proliferation of weapons systems, critical technologies, or dual-use items, as defined under applicable United States law (including regulations); or academic, scientific, or technical collaboration that materially contributes to or supports any of the activities described in paragraphs
(1)and (2). Not later than the date that is 180 days after the enactment of this Act, and not later than the anniversary of that date for each of two years thereafter, the Director of National Intelligence shall submit to the appropriate committees of Congress a list of each entity identified under subsection (b).
