Section 842 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024 ( Public Law 118–31 ; 10 U.S.C. 2341 note) is amended— by redesignating subsection
(h)as subsection (i); and by inserting after subsection
(g)the following new subsection: The Secretary of Defense shall direct the Secretaries of the Navy and the Air Force to incorporate the requirements of the Program into the execution of the Return of Forces to the Pacific exercise of the Air Force and the Rim of the Pacific exercise of the Navy. In carrying out paragraph
(1)with respect to an exercise described in such paragraph, the Secretary concerned shall, in consultation with any covered nation participating in such exercise, evaluate the following: Operational scenarios that require greater collaboration amongst national militaries to support logistics requirements and which shall leverage contracting processes and operational contract support, acquisitions and cross servicing agreements, and prepositioned assets to assess how participating nations can maximize deterrence value and readiness of military forces. Barriers that may prevent and opportunities to expand the joint sustainment of weapons systems by nations that commonly operate such weapon systems, including— the use of agreements related to maintenance and the sharing of parts; and how participating nations can expand tactical maintenance and supply interoperability. Conducting maintenance of weapons systems in austere environments and the associated transportation requirements. Existing policies, statutes, and technical requirements that prevent further integration of sustainment of weapon systems amongst participating nations. This subsection shall terminate on the date described in subsection (g). .
