Part D of title V of the Public Health Service Act ( 42 U.S.C. 290dd et seq. ) is amended by adding at the end the following: Not later than 1 year after the date of enactment of this section, and annually thereafter, the Secretary shall— conduct a nationwide survey designed to provide quantitative data regarding the scope of problem gambling and gambling-related harm experienced by individuals using online sports betting; and make available to the public summaries and analyses of the data collected pursuant to surveys under paragraph (1). Each survey under subsection
(a)shall include— a survey of the rates and outcomes of online sports betting; and examination of the rates of potential problem gambling and gambling-related harm by administering the Problem Gambling Severity Index (Ferris and Wynne, 2001) to a select sample of individuals engaged in online sports betting over the 12-month period covered by the survey. The Secretary shall ensure that each survey under subsection
(a)is— conducted by qualified researchers; and not conducted, funded, or instructed by the gambling industry. .
