In addition to amounts otherwise available, there is appropriated to U.S. Customs and Border Protection for fiscal year 2025, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, $20,000,000, to remain available until September 30, 2029, for the purposes described in subsection (b). In the case of an unaccompanied alien child who has attained 12 years of age and is encountered by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the funds made available under subsection
(a)shall only be used to— contact the consulate or embassy of the country of nationality or last habitual residence of such unaccompanied alien child to request such unaccompanied alien child’s criminal record; and conduct an examination of such unaccompanied alien child for gang-related tattoos and other gang-related markings, In this section, the term unaccompanied alien child shall have the meaning given such term in section 462(g) of the Homeland Security Act of 2002.
