The National Quantum Initiative Act ( 15 U.S.C. 8801 et seq. ), as amended by section 18, is further amended by adding at the end the following: The Director of the National Institutes of Health, in collaboration with other Federal departments and agencies, may establish and carry out a research program on quantum sensors and computing for biomedical applications, including the competitive award of grants to institutions of higher education or eligible nonprofit organizations (or consortia thereof). In carrying out the program under subsection
(a)the Director of the National Institutes of Health may carry out activities that support— basic and applied research focused on developing quantum sensors for biomedical applications; studies of end-use cases of quantum sensors in biomedicine; multi-disciplinary partnerships to explore and develop capabilities at the intersection of quantum computing, data science, and biomedical research; and development of a diverse biomedical quantum information science workforce through training and fellowship activities. .
