Sec. 595. Improved access to high school and college students for recruiting

Section 503(c)(1)(A)(i) of chapter 31 of title 10, United States Code, is amended to read as follows: shall provide, upon request by military recruiters from a military service— access to secondary school students that is similar to the access provided generally to postsecondary educational institutions or to prospective employers of those students; and facilitate not less than one in-person recruitment event per academic year; . Section 983(b) of title 10, United States Code, is amended— in paragraph (2), by redesignating subparagraphs
(A)and
(B)as clauses
(i)and (ii), respectively; by redesignating paragraphs
(1)and
(2)as subparagraphs
(A)and (B), respectively; in the matter preceding subparagraph
(A)(as so redesignated), by striking No funds and inserting
(1)No funds ; in subparagraph (B), as redesignated by paragraph (2)— in the matter preceding clause (i), as redesignated by paragraph (1), by inserting (or in the case of clause
(iii)previously enrolled) after enrolled ; in clause (i), as so redesignated, by striking ; and and inserting a semicolon; in clause (ii), as so redesignated, by striking the period at the end and inserting ; and ; and by adding at the end the following new clause: names, addresses, electronic mail addresses (which shall be the electronic mail addresses provided by the institution, if available), and telephone listings of students whose dates of attendance stopped in the prior academic year. ; and by adding at the end the following new paragraph: An institution of higher education (including any subelement of such institution) may not release the information described in paragraph (1)(B) with respect to a student without the prior written consent of the student to release such information for the purposes of military recruitment. . Section 8528 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 ( 20 U.S.C. 7908 ) is amended— by amending subsection
(a)to read as follows: Each local educational agency receiving assistance under this Act shall comply with section 503(c) of title 10, United States Code. ; and by striking subsection (c). The Secretary of Defense shall prescribe regulations to carry out the amendments made by subsections
(a)and
(b)this section.
