Sec. 230. Review of artificial intelligence investment

Not later than 180 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense shall— review the current investment into applications of artificial intelligence to the platforms, processes, and operations of the Department of Defense; and categorize the types of artificial intelligence investments by categories including but not limited to the following: Automation. Machine learning. Autonomy. Robotics. Deep learning and neural network. Natural language processing.
Not later than 120 days after the completion of the review and categorization required by subsection (a), the Secretary of Defense shall submit to the congressional defense committees a report on— the findings of the Secretary with respect to the review and any action taken or proposed to be taken by the Secretary to address such findings; and an evaluation of how the findings of the Secretary align with stated strategies of the Department of Defense with regard to artificial intelligence and performance objectives established in the Department of Defense Data, Analytics, and Artificial Intelligence Adoption Strategy.
