Sec. 1345. Plan and annual report relating to trilateral defense cooperation with Japan and the Republic of Korea

Not later than March 1, 2025, the Secretary of Defense, in coordination with the Secretary of State, shall submit to the appropriate committees of Congress a plan to advance trilateral defense cooperation among the United States, Japan, and the Republic of Korea. The plan required by paragraph
(1)shall include the following: A description of the resources necessary to advance trilateral defense cooperation among the United States, Japan, and the Republic of Korea, including with respect to activities relating to— trilateral communication mechanisms, consultations, and senior leadership engagements; ballistic missile defense, including real-time information sharing; trilateral exercises and other activities under the multi-year trilateral exercise plan agreed to by the United States, Japan, and the Republic of Korea in August 2023; the Trilateral Maritime Security Cooperation Framework established by the United States, Japan, and the Republic of Korea in August 2023; countering malicious cyber and disinformation activities; and disaster relief and humanitarian assistance activities. An identification of challenges to improving such trilateral defense cooperation with respect to the activities described in subparagraph (A). Any other matter the Secretary of Defense considers relevant. Not later than March 1, 2026 and annually thereafter through 2029, the Secretary of Defense, in coordination with the Secretary of State, shall submit to the appropriate committees of Congress a report on trilateral defense cooperation among the United States, Japan, and the Republic of Korea that includes, with respect to the activities described in subsection (a)(2)(A), a description of any such activities conducted during the preceding year. In this section, the term appropriate committees of Congress means— the Committee on Armed Services, the Committee on Appropriations, and the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Senate; and the Committee on Armed Services, the Committee on Appropriations, and the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives.
