During the period described in subsection (b), the Secretary of Defense may not— establish any new positions within the Department of Defense with responsibility for matters relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion; or fill any vacancies in positions in the Department with responsibility for such matters. The period described in this subsection is the period— beginning on the date of the enactment of this Act; and ending on the earlier of— the date the Comptroller General submits to Congress the study required by section 529B(b)(2) of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024 ( Public Law 118–31 ); or the date that is 1 year after the date of the enactment of this Act.
Nothing in this section may be construed to prevent the Secretary from reducing the number of positions relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion or from eliminating specific positions relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
