Section 7(a) of the Civil Rights of Institutionalized Persons Act ( 42 U.S.C. 1997e(a) ) is amended to read as follows: A prisoner confined in any jail, prison, or other correctional facility may bring an action with respect to prison conditions under section 1979 of the Revised Statutes of the United States ( 42 U.S.C. 1983 ) or another Federal law without regard to whether the prisoner has exhausted the administrative remedies that are available. . The amendment made by subsection
(a)shall apply with respect to any action that is filed on or after the date of enactment of this Act.
