Section 575 of the James M. Inhofe National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2023 ( 20 U.S.C. 7703d ) is amended— in subsection (a)— by striking year, the local educational agency and all that follows through (as determined and inserting year, the local educational agency had (as determined ; by striking paragraph (2); by redesignating subparagraphs
(A)and
(B)as paragraphs
(1)and (2), respectively, and by moving such paragraphs, as so redesignated, two ems to the left; and in paragraph (2), as redesignated by subparagraph (C), by striking ; or and inserting a period; in subsection (f)— by striking The Secretary of Defense and inserting the following: The Secretary of Defense, acting through the Director of the Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation, ; and by adding at the end the following: The Director shall make disbursements under paragraph
(1)using existing authorities of the Office. ; by striking subsection (h); and by redesignating subsections
(i)and
(j)as subsections
(h)and (i), respectively. Not later than March 1, 2024, the Director of the Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation shall brief the Committees of the Armed Services of the Senate and the House of Representatives on— any additional authorities that would be helpful to the Office in its efforts to better support local educational agencies; and any actions taken to implement the recommendations outlined in the March 2008 report entitled Update to the Report on Assistance to Local Educational Agencies for Defense Dependents Education and required by section 574(c) of the John Warner National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2007 ( Public Law 109–364 ; 120 Stat. 2227) (as in effect on the date of the enactment of that Act).
