There is authorized to be appropriated to the Secretary $50,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2023 through 2032 to hire additional full-time equivalent positions within the Food Safety and Inspection Service relating to inspections conduced pursuant to, and the enforcement of, Public Law 85–765 (commonly known as the Humane Methods of Slaughter Act of 1958 ) ( 7 U.S.C. 1901 et seq. ). In carrying out subsection (a), priority shall be given to hiring personnel— to inspect processing facilities (as described by the term eligible facility in section 764 of division N of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 ( 21 U.S.C. 473 )); and in regions with the highest number of vacancies within the Food Safety and Inspection Service.
