Section 3771 of title 18, United States Code, is amended— in subsection (a)— by redesignating paragraph
(10)as paragraph (13); and by inserting after paragraph
(9)the following: The right to be provided, upon request, with a copy of the report and evidence on file from the applicable law enforcement or other investigative agency after the investigation is closed, whether closed by arrest or otherwise, except in the case of information that is required to be withheld or redacted because release of the information would adversely affect an ongoing investigation or harm public safety. A free copy of the police or agency report shall be provided to the victim or victim’s representative within a reasonable period of time. The right to be protected from the disclosure of confidential information, including an address, Social Security number, medical record number, driver’s license number, and employment identification number. .
