Section 8142(c) of title 5, United States Code, is amended by striking paragraphs
(1)and
(2)and inserting the following: a volunteer injured on or after the date of the enactment of the Peace Corps Reauthorization Act of 2022 is deemed to be receiving monthly pay at the rate for GS–7, step 5; a volunteer or former volunteer whose injury occurred before the date of the enactment of the Peace Corps Reauthorization Act of 2022 shall have their disability compensation prospectively adjusted so that they are deemed receiving monthly pay at the rate for GS–7, step 5, unless such adjustment would result in a reduction of compensation payable; benefits paid under section 8133 due to a death occurring before such date of enactment shall be prospectively adjusted to reflect the volunteer’s deemed receiving monthly pay at the rate for GS–7, step 5; and nothing in this subsection may be construed to authorize the retroactive adjustment to the rate for GS–7, step 5 for compensation payable for any period before such date of enactment. .
