Section 309A of the Controlled Substances Act ( 21 U.S.C. 829a ) is amended— in subsection (a)(5), by striking 14 days and inserting 60 days ; and in subsection (b)— by striking paragraph (1); by redesignating paragraphs
(2)and
(3)as paragraphs
(1)and (2), respectively; in paragraph (1), as so redesignated, by striking the Attorney General, and all that follows and inserting the following: the Attorney General may modify the number of days described in subsection (a)(5) if the Secretary determines that the modification will— reduce the risk of diversion; or protect the public health. ; and in paragraph (2), as so redesignated, by striking 7 days and inserting 14 days .
