Section 7271(1) of title 10, United States Code, is amended by inserting , including active resistance, gallantry, or defiance while serving as a prisoner of war after United States . Section 8291(1) of title 10, United States Code, is amended by inserting , including active resistance, gallantry, or defiance while serving as a prisoner of war after United States . Section 9271(1) of title 10, United States Code, is amended by inserting , including active resistance, gallantry, or defiance while serving as a prisoner of war after United States .
Section 2732(1) of title 14, United States Code, is amended by inserting , including active resistance, gallantry, or defiance while serving as a prisoner of war after United States . Not later than one year after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of the Department in which the Coast Guard is operating shall prescribe regulations that set forth uniform standards for awarding the Medal of Honor to a member of the Armed Forces pursuant to an amendment made by subsection (a).
Such regulations shall apply retroactively to a member who was a prisoner of war before the date of the prescription of such regulations. Not later than one year after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense shall submit to the Committees on Armed Services of the Senate and House of Representatives a report regarding the number of individuals who may be eligible for a Medal of Honor pursuant to the amendments made by this section.
