Sec. 2564. Produced water demonstration program

The Secretary of Energy shall establish a demonstration program for on-site treatment of produced water. In developing the demonstration program under this section, the Secretary shall consult with the heads of other relevant Federal departments and agencies, including the Department of the Interior and the Environmental Protection Agency. In carrying out this section, the Secretary should prioritize— first-of-a-kind or new approaches to treating produced water stationed on site; and technologies that can be used at natural gas or oil development sites to reduce other environmental harm either through emissions or other environmental impact.
There are authorized to be appropriated for purposes of this section $10,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2020 through 2025.
