The heads of offices and components of the Department of Homeland Security shall promptly advise the Inspector General of the Department of all allegations of misconduct with respect to which the Inspector General has investigative authority under the Inspector General Act of 1978. The Inspector General may waive the notification requirement under this subsection with respect to any category or subset of allegations of misconduct. Nothing in this section may be construed as affecting the authority of the Secretary of Homeland Security under subsection
(a)of section 8I of the Inspector General Act of 1978 ( 5 U.S.C. App. 8I ).
