Sec. 937. Pilot programs on data integration strategies for the Department of Defense

The Secretary of Defense shall, acting through the Chief Management Officer of the Department of Defense, carry out pilot programs to develop data integration strategies for the Department of Defense to address high-priority challenges of the Department. The pilot programs required by subsection
(a)shall involve data integration strategies to address challenges of the Department with respect to the following: The budget of the Department. Logistics. Personnel security and insider threats. At least two other high-priority challenges of the Department identified by the Secretary for purposes of this section. In developing a data integration strategy to address a challenge of the Department for purposes of a pilot program under this section, the Secretary shall do the following: Identify the elements of the Department, and the officials of such elements, to be involved in carrying out the data integration strategy. Specify the elements of the data integration strategy. Specify the policies of the Department, if any, to be modified or waived in order to facilitate the carrying out of the data integration strategy by enabling timely and continuous sharing of information needed to solve the challenge concerned. Not later than 180 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall submit to the congressional defense committees a report on the pilot programs to be carried out under this section. The report shall include the following: A description of each pilot program, including the challenge of the Department to be addressed by such pilot program and the manner in which the data integration strategy under such pilot program will address the challenge. If the carrying out of any pilot program requires legislative action for the waiver or modification of a statutory requirement that prevents or impedes the carrying out of the pilot program, a recommendation for legislative action to waive or modify such statutory requirement.
