Subpart I of part C of title VII of the Public Health Service Act is amended by inserting after section 747A ( 42 U.S.C. 293k–1 ) the following: The Secretary may award grants, cooperative agreements, or contracts to health professions schools, and other public and private entities, for the development and implementation of programs to provide education and training to health care professionals in the delivery of trauma-informed care. To be eligible to receive a grant, contract, or cooperative agreement under subsection (a), an entity shall— be— a health professions school; or a public or private entity determined to be appropriate by the Secretary; submit an application to the Secretary at such time, in such manner, and containing such information as the Secretary may require; and enter into an agreement described in subsection (c).
The Secretary may award a grant, contract, or cooperative agreement under subsection
(a)to an entity only if the entity agrees that the program to be implemented under the award will include information and education on— best practices developed under section 101 of the Trauma-Informed Care for Children and Families Act of 2016; interdisciplinary approaches to delivering trauma-informed care; cultural, linguistic, literacy, geographic, and other barriers to care in underserved populations; and recent findings, developments, and improvements in the provision of trauma-informed care. The Secretary shall (directly or through grants or contracts) provide for the evaluation of programs implemented under subsection
(a)in order to determine the effect of such programs on knowledge of and practice concerning trauma-informed care. There is authorized to be appropriated to carry out this section such sums as may be necessary for each of the fiscal years 2017 through 2019. Amounts appropriated under this subsection shall remain available until expended. .
