Not later than 180 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall— review the current use of technology in the school lunch program established under the Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act ( 42 U.S.C. 1751 et seq. ) and the school breakfast program established by section 4 of the Child Nutrition Act of 1966 ( 42 U.S.C. 1773 ); identify opportunities in which enhanced use of technology would reduce the rate of errors in administration of the programs by State agencies and local educational agencies; and encourage State agencies and local educational agencies to use technology in the areas identified under paragraph (2).
Not later than 180 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall— review the feasibility and evaluate the benefits of using a unique student identifier in the school lunch program established under the Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act ( 42 U.S.C. 1751 et seq. ) and the school breakfast program established by section 4 of the Child Nutrition Act of 1966 ( 42 U.S.C. 1773 ); submit to the Committee on Education and the Workforce of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry of the Senate a report describing the results of the review under paragraph (1); and initiate implementation of a system for using a unique student identifier, unless implementation is not in the best interest of the programs described in paragraph (1).
