Section 410 of the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 ( 16 U.S.C. 1421h ) is amended— by redesignating paragraphs
(5)and
(6)as paragraphs
(7)and (8), respectively; by redesignating paragraphs (1),
(2), (3), and
(4)as paragraphs (2), (3), (4), and (5), respectively; by inserting before paragraph (2), as redesignated, the following: The term entangle or entanglement means an event in the wild in which a living or dead marine mammal has gear, rope, line, net, or other material wrapped around or attached to the marine mammal and is— on a beach or shore of the United States; or in navigable waters of the United States. ; and by inserting after paragraph (5), as redesignated, the following: The term stranding region means a geographic region designated by the Secretary for purposes of administration of this Act. .
