Subtitle A of T title II of the Homeland Security Act of 2002 ( 6 U.S.C. 121 et seq. ) is amended by adding at the end the following: Not later than March 31 of each year beginning in the year after the date of enactment of this section, and each year thereafter for 7 years, the Under Secretary for Intelligence and Analysis shall prepare and submit to the congressional homeland security committees a report assessing the current threats to homeland security and the capability gaps in homeland security defenses to address such threats.
In carrying out paragraph (1), the Under Secretary for Intelligence and Analysis shall submit an unclassified report, and as necessary, a classified annex. Not later than 90 days after the date on which a report required under subsection
(a)is submitted to the congressional homeland security committees, the Inspector General of the Department shall prepare and submit to the congressional homeland security committees a report, which shall include an assessment of the capability gaps in homeland security defenses and recommendations for actions to mitigate those gaps. Not later than 90 days after the date on which a report required under subsection
(b)is submitted to the congressional homeland security committees, the Secretary shall submit to the congressional homeland security committees a plan to mitigate the threats to homeland security and vulnerabilities in homeland security defenses identified in those reports. Not later than March 31 of each year beginning in the year after the date of enactment of this section, and each year thereafter for 7 years, the Under Secretary for Intelligence and Analysis shall prepare and submit to the congressional homeland security committees a report assessing the current threats to homeland security and the capability of the Department to address those threats. The table of contents in section 1(b) of the Homeland Security Act of 2002 ( Public Law 107–296 ; 116 Stat. 2135) , as amended by this Act, is amended by inserting after the item relating to section 210F the following: Sec. 210G. Annual homeland security assessment. .
