Sec. 622. Continuation pay for full Thrift Savings Plan members who have completed 8 to 12 years of service

Section 356 of title 37, United States Code, which shall take effect on January 1, 2018, pursuant to section 635 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2016 ( Public Law 114–92 ; 129 Stat. 851), is amended— in the heading, by striking and inserting 12 years ; 8 to 12 years in subsection (a)— by striking paragraph
(1)and inserting the following: has completed not less than 8 and not more than 12 years of service in a uniformed service; and ; and in paragraph (2), by striking an additional 4 years and inserting not less than 3 additional years ; by amending subsection
(b)to read as follows: The Secretary concerned shall determine the payment amount under this section as a multiple of a full TSP member’s monthly basic pay but shall not be less than 2.5 times the member’s monthly basic pay. The maximum amount the Secretary concerned may pay the member under this section is— in the case of a member of a regular component or in a reserve component if the member is performing active Guard and Reserve duty (as defined in section 101(d)(6) of title 10), 13 times the amount of the monthly basic pay payable to the member for the month during which the agreement under subsection (a)(2) is entered into; and in the case of any member not covered by paragraph (1), 6 times the amount of monthly basic pay to which the member would be entitled for the month during which the agreement under subsection (a)(2) is entered into if the member were serving on active duty at the time the agreement is entered into. ; and by amending subsection
(d)to read as follows: The Secretary concerned shall pay continuation pay under subsection
(a)to a full TSP member when the member has completed not less than 8 and not more than 12 years of service in a uniformed service. . The item relating to section 356 in the table of sections at the beginning of chapter 5 of title 37, United States Code, which shall take effect on January 1, 2018, pursuant to section 635 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2016 ( Public Law 114–92 ; 129 Stat. 851), is amended by striking 12 years and inserting 8 to 12 years .
