Section 903(a) of the Foreign Service Act of 1980 ( 22 U.S.C. 4083 ) is amended by inserting (or after a shorter period of such service if the member’s assignment is terminated for the convenience of the Service) after 12 months of continuous service abroad . Not later than 90 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall submit a report to the appropriate congressional committees that recounts the number of instances during the 3-year period ending on such date of enactment that the Foreign Service permitted home leave for a member after fewer than 12 months of continuous service abroad.
