Section 3 of the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 ( 16 U.S.C. 1362 ) is amended— by redesignating paragraphs
(1)through
(29)as paragraphs (7), (5), (8), (11), (12), (14), (15), (17), (19), (20), (21), (24), (26), (29), (30), (9), (4), (10), (25), (22), (23), (3), (2), (27), (28), (18), (16), (13), and (6), respectively; in paragraph
(2)(as so redesignated), by striking Indians, Aleuts, or Eskimos and inserting Alaska Natives ; in subparagraph
(B)of paragraph
(24)(as so redesignated), by striking in section and inserting In section ; and by inserting before paragraph
(2)(as so redesignated) the following: The term Alaska Native has the meaning given the term Native in section 3 of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act ( 43 U.S.C. 1602 ). The term Alaska Native includes any Tsimishian Indian, regardless of whether the Tsimishian Indian is enrolled in the Metlakatla Indian Community. . Section 101 of the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 ( 16 U.S.C. 1371 ) is amended— in subsections
(a)and (b), by striking Indian, Aleut, or Eskimo each place it appears and inserting Alaska Native ; in subsection (a)(5)(D)(iv), by striking clauses and inserting clause ; and in subsection (b)— in paragraph (2), by striking native each place it appears and inserting Alaska Native ; and in the undesignated matter following paragraph (3), in the first sentence, by striking Indians, Aleuts, or Eskimos and inserting Alaska Natives . Section 109 of the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 ( 16 U.S.C. 1379 ) is amended— in subsection (b)(3)(B)(i), by striking section 3(14)(B) and inserting section 3(29)(B) ; in paragraphs
(1)and
(2)of subsection (d), by striking section 3(14)(B) each place it appears and inserting section 3(29)(B) ; and in subsection (e)(2)(B), by striking Alaskan Natives and inserting Alaska Natives . Section 202(a)(7) of the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 ( 16 U.S.C. 1402(a)(7) ) is amended by striking Indians, Eskimos, and Aleuts and inserting Alaska Natives . Section 408(g)(2) of the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 ( 16 U.S.C. 1421f–1(g)(2) ) is amended by striking section 3(12)(A) and inserting section 3(24)(A) . Section 508(a)(1) of the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 ( 16 U.S.C. 1423g(a)(1) ) is amended by striking Alaskan natives and inserting Alaska Natives .
