In this Act, the following definitions apply: The term chief State election official means, with respect to a State, the individual designated by the State under section 10 of the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 ( 52 U.S.C. 20509 ) to be responsible for the coordination of the State’s responsibilities under such Act. The term Clerk means the Clerk of the House of Representatives. The term qualified individual means an individual who, at the time of providing a signature on a national discharge petition, is registered to vote in elections for Federal office held in the State in which the individual resides.
The term Secretary means the Secretary of the Senate. The term State means each of the several States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the United States Virgin Islands.
