Sec. 602. Mojave trails special management area

There is established the Mojave Trails Special Management Area in the State of California, to be managed by the Barstow Field Office and the Needles Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management. The purpose of the Management Area is— to preserve and maintain the nationally significant biological, cultural, recreational, geological, educational, historic, scenic, and scientific values— in the Central and Eastern Mojave Desert; and along historic Route 66; to secure the opportunity for present and future generations to experience and enjoy the magnificent vistas, wildlife, land forms, and natural and cultural resources of the Management Area; to provide public recreational use of the Management Area, including motorized vehicle use on designated roads and trails; and to provide access to mineral resources for mining and economic development.
The Management Area shall consist of the public lands in San Bernardino County, California, comprising approximately 965,000 acres, as generally depicted on the map. As soon as practicable, but not later than three years, after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall submit a map and legal description of the Management Area to— the Committee on Natural Resources of the House of Representatives; and the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources of the Senate. The map and legal description submitted under paragraph
(1)shall have the same force and effect as if included in this Act, except that the Secretary may correct any errors in the map and legal description. Copies of the map submitted under paragraph
(1)shall be on file and available for public inspection in— the Office of the Director of the Bureau of Land Management; and the appropriate office of the Bureau of Land Management in the State of California.
